Our Story

Adelante Winds is a dynamic woodwind quintet known for its bold artistry, vibrant programming, and commitment to expanding the repertoire of contemporary chamber music. Formed in Central Texas, the ensemble brings together five accomplished musicians whose shared passion for collaboration and creative innovation has shaped the group’s unique musical identity. Since its founding, Adelante Winds has become recognized for performances that blend precision, personality, and an adventurous musical spirit, captivating audiences across Texas and beyond, with appearances in San Antonio, Austin, and Philadelphia.

With a mission embedded in their name-adelante, meaning “forward”-the ensemble is dedicated to championing new music and uplifting diverse voices in the chamber music landscape. Adelante Winds has premiered over 15 works in the past few years alone,  written specifically for the group and frequently collaborates with composers such as Martin Van Klompenberg, Carle Wirshba, and Bronwen McVeigh, whose perspectives and stylistic approaches enrich the ensemble’s artistic vision. Their repertoire spans nearly a decade of commissions, collaborations, and discoveries, showcasing an impressive range of contemporary compositional styles while honoring the quintet’s classical foundation.

In recent years, Adelante Winds has established itself as an ensemble equally devoted to education and community engagement. The quintet maintains an active presence in schools and universities including Baylor University and Angelo State University, offering masterclasses, educational performances, and workshops designed to inspire young musicians and cultivate vibrant musical communities. Their educational initiatives emphasize accessibility, creativity, and artistic curiosity-values that have become central to their identity as performers and ambassadors for wind chamber music. Central to this work is Adelante Winds’ commitment to coaching young artists in building sustainable and self-directed careers. Through workshops, masterclasses, and direct mentorship-developed through collaborations with institutions such as Huston-Tillotson University,  North West Vista College in partnership with the Jacks Stone Award for New Music, and Summer Music in Tuscany-the ensemble equips students with tools in entrepreneurship, project development, and audience engagement, empowering them to take ownership of their artistic paths. This work reflects the ensemble’s broader mission to prepare emerging musicians for a dynamic and evolving musical landscape.

Adelante Winds is deeply committed to community engagement and the principle of “paying it forward,” using their platform to create meaningful and lasting connections beyond the concert stage. Through initiatives such as Bridging Cultures Initiative, school partnership, or Empowering Notes Series, the ensemble brings high-quality musical experiences to diverse audiences, including students, underserved communities, and first-time concertgoers. Their work extends beyond performance to include interactive presentations, side-by-side collaborations, and mentorship opportunities that foster accessibility and belonging within the arts.

Adelante Winds is currently preparing to record their debut album, a project that reflects the ensemble’s first decade of musical exploration. The album will feature works written for and inspired by the quintet, representing the rich artistic collaborations that have shaped their trajectory. From atmospheric sound worlds to rhythmically driven, colorful works that push the boundaries of wind ensemble writing, the album celebrates the expressive possibilities of modern chamber music and the voices that have contributed to the ensemble’s artistic evolution.
